In 2025, Canada will invite 10,000 families to apply for the Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program, a key part of its commitment to family reunification. This program allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents for permanent residency, helping loved ones live together in Canada. The initiative reflects Canada’s ongoing efforts to support strong family ties and create welcoming communities for newcomers.
Were You in the 2020 Pool? It’s Time to Check Your Email!
This year, the IRCC will not be accepting any new interest-to-sponsor forms. As an alternative, invitations will be dispatched to those who submitted an interest-to-sponsor form in 2020 but have not yet received one. Therefore, if you submitted an application at that time, it is imperative that you review your inbox, as well as your spam or garbage folders. It is possible that your golden ticket is already there!
How to Apply if Invited?
You will have the option to submit your complete application electronically using either the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal, depending on your circumstance, if you are one of the selected potential sponsors. For your convenience, the application procedure has been simplified and digitalized.

What If You’re Not Invited This Year?
Do not be concerned; Canada continues to provide an exceptional alternative. If you are not invited this time, your relatives may still be eligible for the Super Visa, which permits multiple entries for a maximum of 10 years. It is even more advantageous for Super Visa holders to remain in Canada for a maximum of five years at a time, with the option to extend their stay for an additional two years, all without traveling outside of the country.
This makes the Super Visa one of the most family-friendly options for long-term visits, particularly for those who are not selected in the PGP draw.
Why This Matters?
The Parents and Grandparents Program is one of the most eagerly anticipated opportunities to preserve family unity, as family reunification is a fundamental principle of Canadian immigration policy. This is a significant opportunity if you are interested in permanently relocating your parents or elders to Canada.
